Backyard Breeders
Backyard Breeders or more precisely backyard dog breeders.
I got today’s idea for a post from a comment by Ann, on my Facebook post yesterday showing the first puppy to open its eyes. She said ‘Your peace is over'” Personally, I think I have a little more time before real bedlam sets in.
You know what? I’m looking forward to every minute of this experience. Sure, sleeping on the sofa to be next to them when Annie goes in for an evening feed, really breaks up my sleep cycle but I’m getting used to it now. As with any growing family I’m planning expansion of their play area and new little puppy bowls so they don’t crowd each other out when it’s time to eat semisolid food.
Backyard Breeders
I don’t think Judi or I could have devoted the proper time to breeding puppies if we were both still working or didn’t have the funds to pay for proper veterinary care, and medicine. Not sure if we’ll ever do this again. I am 100% glad that we did it now!
Way back in the beginning, I had a couple of disparaging comments one of which accused me of backyard breeding, as if this was some type of evil. Well, I don’t believe in such generalizations. There are plenty of professional breeders who do a great job, and others that are highly questionable. I purchased Airedales in the past, from what some may call a backyard breeder (one was a Vet.) and also from professional breeders. It’s not hard to determine whether puppies are bred correctly, no matter who does the job. Really, I think it’s a matter of how the dogs are cared for, and how they are loved by their human parents.
Sure, some may categorize Judi and I as backyard breeders, I really couldn’t care less. I know, raising this litter in my living room, (not only do they have a little backyard view but they’re right in front of my big-screen TV … Though they don’t know how to operate the controls yet) getting the advice of two very experienced Airedale breeders and lots of my friends here on Airedale Facebook groups. I guarantee you will not find any better cared for or loved Airedale puppies than our little furry friends.
I strayed a little from my commenting on the remark that my peace over, so what I have to say about that remark, is bring it on! I love every bit of this experience and being privileged to be there at the moment of birth, and watch them grow. I will say, for sure Judi and I will feel a little sadness and joy when their human parents arrive to take them to their forever homes.
Airedale – once you’ve had one you will never want any other breed of dog.
