Airedale Terrier Puppy Tail Docking
Wow, never realized that my prior post about the tail docking would be so controversial. As I said before, this is my first time, and so am certainly far from being an expert. But keep in mind that Judi and I as well as Annie were in what the room, for both procedures on all nine pups. I said this before, but feel it’s worth saying again, in almost every case, there was a minor yelp, no different than when Annie accidentally stepped on a pup here at home.

I confirmed with the veterinarian the main reason that this is done while they are still just a couple of days old, is the fact that their central nervous system is still not fully developed, and so what inconsequential pain there may be for a fraction of a second is substantially less than if they were older & had this done. Yes, research shows that puppies that young have little to no feeling in their tails because their nerve endings are underdeveloped. I hope this puts your mind at ease.
No aesthetic was used. Yet, not one pup was whimpering or yelping by the time we left the vets office.
All the people that are raving about this being animal cruelty, please tell me you’re all vegetarians. If you are not a vegetarian, do a YouTube search on the condition of American slaughter house’s and you can see real animal cruelty. Next time you sit down to your steak dinner, your pork chops, or chicken dinner, you can remember just how that animal came too be on your plate!!
I mean there are REAL actual forms of animal abuse everywhere in slaughter house’s but this is what u choose too take a stand for — puppy tail docking??? As far as people having an opinion on whether or not it should even be done, I fully understand.
