The Oorang Airedale has loads of energy and love nothing more than to run, play, fetch and dig outside.

If you’re a hiker, hunter or runner, your Oorang Airedale Terrier will stay with you the whole way. They are also very responsive to obedience training.

Airedale Terriers typically enjoy games such as fetch, tag and even tug of war. Care needs to be taken to avoid engaging the dominant or independent Airedale Terrier in games of strength such as tug of war as this may reinforce the dog’s dominance or willingness to compete with the owner. Consider playing games such as fetch, hide and seek or even jogging or running with the dog to give it exercise as well as avoid any dominance building activities with the dog.

The Airedale is a reliable watchdog, and thrives on protecting his family. He can be a fierce guardian, but is friendly with his family and friends. That friendliness does not usually extend to other animals. The Airedale Terrier can be aggressive with other dogs, particularly of the same gender, and is not a great choice for families with cats, either.

You can’t talk about the Airedale without mentioning his independent streak. This is an intelligent dog who thinks for himself and does not always wait for direction from his owner. If you want a highly biddable dog that awaits your every command, the Airedale Terrier is not the breed for you. However, if you are stimulated by challenge, living with an Airedale may suit you.
