These are the larger Oorang or Mountain Airedales.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Larger Airedales, up to 121 lb can be found in North America. They are often called “Oorangs.” This was the name of a kennel in Ohio in the early 1900s.

Ex-Army captain and Airdale breeder Walter Lingo’s monthly magazine “Oorang Comments” (#25, page 81), stated that “When full grown your Airedale dog will weigh from forty to fifty-five pounds and if a female will weigh slightly less. This is the standard weight, but when required, we can furnish over-sized Airedales whose weight will be from sixty to one hundred pounds.”

Because Lingo tried to fill orders for everyone, the Oorang strain size was never standardized. Airedales weighing from 40 to 100 pounds were produced, but for the most part they were approximately 50 pounds and 22 to 24 inches at the shoulder.

Above is the Dad at 102 lbs.

The cost is $1,000 and car delivery to your home may be able available at a modest additional cost.

  1. Good morning. My name is Marco. I am a local video producer here in San Diego. We are looking to grab some B -roll footage of airedale pups playing with each other for a Blue Buffalo commercial we are filming. We would send one camera man to your location, and it shouldn’t take much longer than an hour.

Can you please tell me if you are interested, or if you know any local breeders that might be? I can pay you $250 for the hour.

    Thanks,
    Marco

  2. Hi! I’ve been trying to look for a new Airedale puppy for my grandparents, and you guys are the closes breeders I have discovered so far. My grandparents Airedale recently passed away, and I know that they would love to find a new friend to have as company. I just have a few questions, how long have you been breeding, and how much extra would it cost for you to deliver a pup to Stockton, Ca? Also we are looking for a female. Thank you, hope to hear back soon. 🙂

  3. Hi, im Byron. My family and I are looking for an airdale puppy. My daughter has some allergies to some dogs and she really wants a puppy. The airdales are hypoallergenic and energetic, all positives for my family. If you decide to breed more or know of someone that breeds airdales, we would definitely be interested in gaining a new addition to our family.

  4. No. They are larger than the AKC standard and therefore cannot be shown. But, there has been a movement to try to get an AKC standard for the larger Airedale’s. The AKC has approved standards for other larger dogs in the past. The first one that comes to mind is the giant schnauzer.

  5. Currently, I do not have any puppies for sale. But, if you’re interested I can hook you up with a breeder who does. Just email me direct.

  6. Our beloved airedale Charlie crossed the Rainbow at 13 years of age, peacefully falling asleep.
Do you know of a breeder of the larger size type Airedales that would export to Australia?
    Thank you for your response,
    With kind Regards,
Carsen Tannberg (previously from Calgary, Alberta)

  7. I only have two dogs and no puppies at this time. If you’re interested in a puppy let me know and I can forward your email address to other reader who I work with.

  8. I have been without an airrdale for four years and am ready to add another one to our household. I live in Wheaton Il and am having trouble finding one. Do you have any puppies available?

  9. Hi we are the Forsyth family from the UK. We are now in the fortunate position to add a new member to our family.
We were wondering if you are able to export the the UK.
Look forward to hearing from you.

  10. I would like to know more about your puppies for sale. I am a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and I need another Airedale for a companion. Thank You

  11. I have a 10yr. Old female ( Maggie Mae) she weighs 95 lbs. she is the sweetest dog I have ever been around. She loves people BUT don’t ever try to harm anyone in her family, she changes to hulk but loves and protects our grandchildren. These oorangs are a very special dog.
I am looking for a a female pup and have Maggie help me train her.

  12. I am broken hearted, my airdale got bit by a tick, he died Friday night in his bed, I really can’t carry on with life with out him. He contracted limes disease, my mother is 97 years old and protected her and help her to feel safe. He would not let anyone near her, she is blind. My dog Henry was not just a pet, He was as important as anyone in the family, I am still crying because of his passing, I miss him and feel like my mother could almost give up without him, she is sad and will not stop crying because of Henry’s passing…. I live on a thousand acre farm work from dawn to dusk most days. I took very good care of Henry’s importance. Brushing him, and keeping him clean and a tick took his life. To me, I blame myself, I am a 62 year old man, and cry over the loss of my beloved “Henry”, I grew up with Airedales all my life, this stage in my life, I want at least two Airedales so I am not without at least one…. Please help me sir

  13. Thanks for the inquiry. The virus has made the prices for puppies go through the roof for almost all breeds. The larger/Oorang Airedales are the ones that I like the best, but they are much harder to find than the standard size Airedale. A breeder in Colorado had seven Oorang pups, the asking price is $2500 and she sold all within just a few weeks.

    You may wish to consider”
The AKC ‘Marketplace’ website for upcoming litters. There was a New Mexico breeder with a litter expected in a few month as I recall.
I would also suggest, that you mark my Airedale blog as one of your favorites https://airedale-terriers-oorang.com/airedale-terriers/

  15. Hi
I am actively looking for an Airedale puppy or rescue. Finding the process frustrating. Communication is difficult, and valid information seems almost impossible. Hoping you can help? Perhaps refer a reputable breeder??

  16. area. That breeder is no longer in operation, selling pups, or even still in the area. My dog has been a wonderful pet/companion, and I am interested in possibly breeding him, as I’ve had several Airedales over the years, and he is not only the first “Oorang” (127 pounds), but is a great dog by all other standards, as well.
