Large Airedale Puppy Arrives in San Diego
This video shows the arrival of our new large Airedale Terrier puppy, Teddy! Our new large Airedale Terrier puppy arrived on Alaska airlines all the way from the St. Louis airport.
I do want to say, that if you’re planning on getting a puppy or just shipping your dog by air, always check to see that you can get a nonstop flight. When I was checking I found that the airlines use the terminology direct flight which can be mistaken for nonstop. But, all the direct flights that I checked always had a stop and I didn’t want to put my new little Airedale through any unnecessary travel annoyances. Continue reading “Large Airedale Puppy”
Large Airedale Breeder Interview
Large Airedale Breeder
This is an interview with a breeder of a large Airedale Terriers. Most of the Airedale terriers at this breeders facility range from about 50 pounds on the low side to 122 pounds! Sorry about the sound quality, the camera picked up the motor noise of the gimbal that I was using, and I just couldn’t get it out of the audio track.
These Airedale terriers are way over the AKC standards for the Airedale line. This means that you would not be able to enter these large Airedale Terriers in any AKC sanctioned dog show. Now, with that said from having owned both the regular Airedale Terriers and the larger (sometimes called Oorang Airedales or Mountain Airedales) Airedales, I think the larger Airedale is the ideal size Airedale. Red Airedale Terrier
Red Airedale Terrier
Do you remember the first Ford automobiles that were produced? You could have any color you want as long as it was black! Well, many people believe the Airedale Terrier is just black and tan. Actually, there are all-black Airedales ( view my video of a black Airedale( https://airedale-terriers-oorang.com/airedale-terriers/black-airedale-terrier.html ) and also red Airedales!
As I said before, having owned three black and tan Airedales I’m partial toward the traditional coloring. But, with that said, and even with the fact that the AKC does not recognize the red or the black Airedale, I don’t see why if someone wants one of these Airedales they shouldn’t have one. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Plus, I really think the main attraction of the Airedale is not the coloring so much as it is the personality and traits of the breed itself.
Of all the Airedales I saw at this breeders facility, Eric the red Airedale was not only one of the largest Airedales there, he had the standard fun-loving, happy demeanor as is common with all the Airedale terriers. Also, just look at his face in the video, how can you not love this big fun-loving animal? Continue reading “Red Airedale Terrier”
Black Airedale Terrier
The black Airedale Terrier
Quite a few local Airedale Terrier owners that I’ve talked to here in San Diego, didn’t seem to realize that there was an all black Airedale Terrier. But, the reality is that they have been around for quite some time. Although not recognized by the AKC, through registration into their system, the fact remains that they exist and have exactly the same characteristics as the standard black and tan Airedales. Black Airedale Terrier *CORRECTION to video -The breeder has been breeding Airedales for 33 years!
So, if you love Airedale Terriers, and can appreciate and all black Airedale Terrier, you definitely have an opportunity to stand out from the crowd by owning one of these fun-loving intelligent animals. Continue reading “Black Airedale Terrier”
Larger Airedales
Larger Airedales
The larger Airedale Terriers are known as Mountain Airedales or Oorang Airedales.
Even though these larger Airedale Terriers could be AKC registered, because they are so far beyond the breed standard measurements, they would not be allowed to enter any AKC sanctioned dog shows. But, how many of you were considering purchasing or larger Airedale Terrier to enter into dog shows anyway?
Personally, I feel that the larger Airedale Terrier is the ideal size companion dog. My male dog in this video is Oakley and he currently weighs in at 99 pounds! The smaller female, Annie, weighs in at 55 pounds. I realize there are a lot of detractors out there who pooh-pooh the larger Airedale Terrier, but the fact is that there are many who believe the AKC should formalize standards for the larger Airedale breed. Two San Diego Mountain Airedale Terriers
Mountain Airedale Terriers are usually around 40/45 pounds or so, but, the larger Airedale Terrier also known as a mountain Airedale or an Oorang Airedale can weigh up to about 110 pounds!
My male Airedale Terrier in this video,Oakley, is 92 pounds! Personally, I think this is the ideal size for an Airedale Terrier. These larger Airedale Terriers are AKC registered but because they don’t meet the standard breed size requirements cannot be entered into any AKC sanctioned shows.
