Tova is a 14 week old Arizona Mountain Airedale Terrier. Her housemate is Teddy who is also a larger Airedale Terrier.

When Teddy first came to San Diego we had Annie who had just given birth to nine puppies about five months before Teddy arrived. Annie and Teddy were inseparable, and when we moved from San Diego to Arizona in November 2020 they were both exceedingly happy in their new house and their new big backyard. Photo is Teddy, who is two years old, and Archie and Tova who are 10 weeks old. All three of these Arizona Airedales are the larger (aka Oorang or Mountain Airedales) type and although AKC registered, because they are over the AKC specifications, cannot be entered into any AKC competitions.

Airedale Terrier facts and opinion. Is the Airedale Terrier the ideal dog?

The Airedale Terrier gets its name from the Aire River valley, or dale, in Yorkshire where it was first bred. It was developed by crossing the Welsh terrier with the Otterhound in the mid-19th century to hunt otters and other rodents. Hounds and terriers were the dogs of choice on hunting trips in those days in England. Hounds would smell and pursue the animals, while terriers would burrow into the holes and make the final kill. Demand arose for a dog that combined the best of both the breeds, and the Airedale was born. Its talents at hunting are reflected in its strength, cleverness and boldness. The first time Airedales were imported to North America was in the 1880s, and the American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed in 1888. An idea for your Airedale Terriers

Oorang Airedale Terriers

I should really say this is probably safe for all pets and also it’s not my original idea. Occasionally, when my two Airedales are in the backyard they’ll eat some of the grass and weeds that pop up, especially after the heavy rains we had here in San Diego.

Sure I can spray on some type of weed-killer poison, but I really don’t think this is a good idea when you have any type of pets out in your backyard. Continue reading “Airedale Terrier idea”
