Airedale Hike – San Diego Mission Trails Regional Park


Dog hiking in Mission Trails Regional Park at the river trail-head at Mission Gorge Road & Jackson Drive. This is a nice wide trail that goes down to the San Diego River. The river is usually dry in the summer. But, even with a little water, you can cross by going just a little west of the main crossing & avoid getting wet.

Now, the trail going up on the Tierrasanta side is steeper than the San Diego side, but, still easy. These trails are good for your dog especially late in the day, because they are mostly shaded from direct sun and they are really wide. Cowles Mountain – San Diego Airedale Hike

Last week, after an almost three-month maternity leave, Annie and I started back on our hikes up Cowles Mountain, here in San Diego.

Cowles Mountain, at 1,591 feet is the highest point within the city of San Diego. Of the three main trails that go up to the top, I prefer the Barker Way trail, which some people refer to as the back side trail. Continue reading “San Diego Airedale Hike”

Scary California Airedale Terrier

Well, we all know that Airedale Terriers are anything but scary! Actually, I think one of the reasons they’re popular is because the standard black and tan Airedale Terrier looks like  a teddy bear!

How many little kids grew up with teddy bears? So, it’s probably natural that when they see an Airedale Terrier they are reminded of the stuffed animal that they had when they were little kid.

An Airedale is a quick learner and can be trained very easily. But, it also gets bored quickly, and requires regular mental and physical stimulation. A long walk, a chance to romp through a safe area or a physically tiring game should be good enough for this. A bored Airedale is known to fill up a yard with holes in one evening.
