Large Airedale Puppy Arrives in San Diego
This video shows the arrival of our new large Airedale Terrier puppy, Teddy! Our new large Airedale Terrier puppy arrived on Alaska airlines all the way from the St. Louis airport.
I do want to say, that if you’re planning on getting a puppy or just shipping your dog by air, always check to see that you can get a nonstop flight. When I was checking I found that the airlines use the terminology direct flight which can be mistaken for nonstop. But, all the direct flights that I checked always had a stop and I didn’t want to put my new little Airedale through any unnecessary travel annoyances.
Large Airedale Puppy
Yes, usually the pets are loaded last in the cargo and are always the first off of the plane. But, when you have a stop on the trip, it’s pretty much certain that additional cargo is going to be loaded. So, any airline flight always puts a certain amount of stress on any dog and especially an eight week old puppy. Yes, actually if I could have driven out there and picked up my big Airedale puppy I certainly would have. But, there was no way I had that amount of time to put in a round-trip automobile puppy pick up. Plus, when thinking about it, statistically, I believe the plane trip is far safer than such a long automobile drive. Even though the puppy is in their kennel, an emergency stop, could still result in injury to the pop being thrown around inside the kennel.
In the past does been a lot of criticisms of airlines shipping pets. And from what I’ve read a lot of the criticism was well justified. In my checking I found that the three airlines that I was looking at had all instituted revised pet shipping policies.
As an example of this, airlines will not allow kennels that are snapped together, versus being put together by nuts and bolts. Also, as far as Alaska airlines go, they wanted the veterinarian certificate to state that not only was the puppy in good health, but able to travel between the temperature range of 45° to 85°. I believe this is because the puppy spend a lot of time in their kennel waiting in the cargo facilities for the flight to take off, and also sometimes waiting for their owners to show up at the cargo facility on the receiving end. A lot of these cargo facilities are not temperature controlled, or are hard to maintain temperatures because of freight going in and out all the time.
Actually we had a little problem with this temperature requirement because on the week that the breeder was going to ship, a heat wave was forecast with temperatures forecasted to be around 90° at the St. Louis airport. We checked with Alaska Airlines, and they stated that if the temperatures did exceed 85° they would not accept any pets for air travel. What we had to do wasn’t set of shipping on a Thursday as we had scheduled, we had to move the date up to Monday before the heat wave was scheduled to arrive.
We were anxiously awaiting Teddy’s arrival at the San Diego Alaska airlines freight terminal. Our new little large Airedale puppy, was a little skittish at first but quickly warmed up to his welcome to San Diego and your forever home reading party.
It’s been five years since we picked up any as a little puppy, and now we been afforded the opportunity to watch our new Airedale puppy Teddy work his way through puppy-hood, adolescence and finally become a mature monarch over his new domain.
He is swift, formidable, graceful, big of brain, an ideal chum and guard. ….To his master he is an adoring pal. To marauders he is a destructive lightning bolt.”
