This video was taken when their eyes still had not opened. It was about a week before their eyes started to open. Even when the eyes are open, the first few days, I don’t think they are seeing correctly. It takes a little while for all the pathways to develop for correct vision. Annie the the mom is 53 1/2 pounds and 4 1/2 years old. This is her first litter of puppies From the time Annie gave birth to her first puppy, to the birthing of her last puppy (she had 10 puppies, but one was stillborn) actually lasted approximately eight hours. The Airedale is the largest of the British terriers. They weigh 19–25 kilograms (42–55 lb) in fit condition and have a height at the withers of 58–61 centimetres (23–24 in) for males, with females slightly smaller. The American Kennel Club standard specifies a very slightly smaller dog. Larger Airedales, up to 55 kilograms (121 lb) can sometimes be found in North America. They are sometimes referred to as “Oorangs” as this was the name of a kennel in Ohio in the early 1900s that produced this much larger variation, or Roosevelt Terriers. All right

My San Diego California Airedale Terrier is 53.5Lbs and 4.5 Years old. The Sire, is 5Yrs old and 75/80Lbs. This is the first litter for my Airedale.
This video shows the first Airedale puppy delivery as well as the second puppies birth.

Looks like six male & three females. They all are appx. 8″ long & weigh from 12oz. to 15.2oz.

I guess for Annie,feeding nine newborn pups was a bit much. On the second day, she would actually walk out or hesitate even walking into the whelping area. So, I decided to intervene on nature’s way, and feed the pups about every two hours, but not all at once. I’ve been keeping the pups in a separate blanket lined container and taking five out for the first shift and then the other four for the second shift.
First of all, Annie, Judi & I would like to say thanks to all my human Airedale companions who expressed great interest in this joyous occasion. Also, a special thanks to the professional breeders and local home breeder who offered great advice and put up with my calling for advice as situations arose.
We were well prepared for the delivery and what to expect but sometimes things don’t always go as expected. The stillborn of puppy number four was totally unexpected and very sad for us. Continue reading “Airedale Puppies”
