Teddy – “Annie do you want to play?” Annie – “No!”
Airedales are truly one of a kind! Yes, the Airedale Terriers are lovely-natured charismatic dogs and really affectionate too! Plus, the Airedale is VERY smart and fun loving! Continue reading “San Diego Airedales”
Larger Airedale Terriers aka Mountain Airedales or Oorang Airedales
Annie and Teddy in Southern California
The common man of Great Britain found it necessary to create a dog different from any other in existence. The bird dog became lost in the bush when at stand, the hound was too noisy and retrievers lack stamina. Continue reading “Larger Airedale Terriers”
I should really say this is probably safe for all pets and also it’s not my original idea. Occasionally, when my two Airedales are in the backyard they’ll eat some of the grass and weeds that pop up, especially after the heavy rains we had here in San Diego.
Sure I can spray on some type of weed-killer poison, but I really don’t think this is a good idea when you have any type of pets out in your backyard. Continue reading “Airedale Terrier idea”
17 years I’ve be hiking up this (Cowles Mtn.) mountain with Airedales. We have taken in many great sunsets over the Pacific, but until December 12th., we never did a sunrise hike. This is our larger Airedale Terrier sunrise hike on Cowles Mountain in San Diego California.
Oorang Airedale Puppy visits Lake Murray in San Diego
Teddy our 13 week old Oorang Airedale Terrier and Annie ( 5yr old Airedale) visit Lake Murray here in San Diego.
Lake Murray is a reservoir in San Diego, California, operated by the City of San Diego’s Public Utilities Department. It is located within Mission Trails Regional Park. Continue reading “Oorang Airedale Puppy at Lake Murray”
Annie spent 4 1/2 years with Oakley are 99 pound male Airedale Terrier. Oakley passed away in August at about 10 1/2 years old, and since then we’ve been a one dog family. But, as many of you already know we did breed Annie and she had nine puppies on January 2 of this year.
Teddy & Annie at 8 weeks old and 5 years old for Annie. Airedale Terrier puppies are real bundles of energy. They love to play, roughhouse and naturally get into mischief. At eight weeks old, their little teeth are like razors. Even though they’re just playing, you’re lucky to get a couple of days without getting a little puncture wound on your hand, your arm or your lower leg.
We tried to keep a lot of toys around for Teddy to keep them occupied and out of trouble. Well, perhaps I should say how to big trouble, because you can never keep an Airedale puppy completely out of trouble. It seems there’s always an article of clothing a pair of slippers or a newspaper that’s attacked by Teddy on a daily basis. I think the fact that he’s playing more and more with Annie these days, is keeping them out of real trouble. Continue reading “Airedale Terrier Puppy Play”
Some time ago I read a piece about Airedale terriers where the author said that there’s nothing that makes an Airedale happier than going on a walk of 45 minutes or so. Now, personally, I think that perhaps running around with a couple of other Airedales on an acre or two of property would be something that would make an Airedale really happy.
But it’s certainly true, at least with the Airedales that I’ve had, they all love to go out on hikes here in San Diego. I usually wait until about 90 minutes before sunset before doing a strenuous hike by going up Cowles’s mountain. I found that the Airedales, are very sensitive to hot weather, and so I go up the east side of the mountain before sunset (and naturally carry a lot of water for the dogs to drink) so they don’t get overheated or heat exhaustion.
Airedales are pretty stoic, and I think they would try to stay up with their human companion, rather than stop and cool down. So, always bring water for them and never hike in the hottest part of the day.
Visiting a breeder of the larger Airedale Terriers
Large Airedale Terrier Breeder
Some years ago, I visited our breeder of the larger Airedales in California. Now, just a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be in a position to visit an out-of-state breeder of these larger Airedale Terriers. I should say, that I’ve owned for Airedale terriers, and three of them were the normal AKC breed standard variety.
Then I was lucky enough to find out about the larger Airedale Terriers which are also known as mountain Airedales or Oorang Airedale Terriers. Oakley,my past large Airedale Terrier was 99 pounds and substantially larger in both stature and weight then the breed standard. Continue reading “Large Airedale Terrier Breeder”
